In this 1-hour hands-on training, you will learn:

• how to locate information resources in the Li Ka Shing Library

• how to use SMU PYXIS, our digital library to locate the materials you need
for your courses and

• critical research skills to get through your first semester at SMU

By the end of this training, you will get a head-start in your studies and discover other useful resources at your fingertips, in addition to Google!

This training is COMPULSORY for ALL new students.

Instructions:

Use your SMU ID and SMU Email ONLY [please no Hotmail and Gmail emails]
Choose your session carefully to avoid clashes with other programmes such as School Camps, Academic Briefings and Career Service Orientation. Training places are limited; please do not change/cancel your confirmed session.
Take note of your training time slot. Please be punctual. If you are not present within 5 min of the start of the training, your place will be given to someone else.
School of Law (SOL) students please register for any one of your dedicated sessions.

Legal Internship Prep Course 2010: Sharpening Your Legal and Business Research Skills

You are about to embark on what may be your first experience with legal industry practitioners and it will be important to make a great first impression using your effective research skills. We are offering a 1.5 hour activity-based session to better equip you with the research skills you may require during your internship. In addition, Rajen Munoo has developed a separate 1 hour course to prepare you for business (company/industry) research assignments you may receive from your internship partner.

Session Benefits:
• Provide you with the skills to perform research in areas of law that are new to you
• Increase your awareness of various free legal resources
• Improve your strategy to perform foreign jurisdiction research
• Expose you to resources likely to be available to the legal practitioner
